Sous Chef


Crowne Plaza Hobart is on the lookout for an exceptional Sous Chef to join our team. This is a leadership role within the kitchen supporting our new Executive Chef and an exciting opportunity for those passionate about leading a team who everyday deliver memorable dining experiences with fine local produce, handled with contemporary flare.  

In this role you’ll be the go-to person, leading kitchen activities on shift and preparing our delicious food and helping create memorable menus and experiences for guests. You’ll work collaboratively with the Executive Chef with a focus on our Restaurant, Bars and In Room Dining offering; however, will work collaboratively across all parts of the kitchen including supporting banquet production as required.

Your day to day

  • Create a positive rhythm in the kitchen that creates stability and cohesion to meet the demanding needs of the hotel environment
  • You’ll make sure our dishes are always at their best, you will play a critical role in making sure the dining experience is special and memorable for guests 
  • Work closely with the Executive Chef on menu development, team processes, costing and training 
  • Contribute to departmental administration, forecasts, plans, and departmental production reports for management 
  • Order and manage stock responsibly in accordance with IHG’s purchasing policy and approach 
  • Ensure all aspects of the kitchen environment are hygienic, HACCP compliant and equipment is working properly 
  • Answer guest and colleague questions about dishes and kitchen services to develop and maintain product knowledge 

What we need from you

  • Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery is desirable
  • 3 years’ leadership experience in kitchen operations​ and the ability to do all sections competently 
  • Practical understanding of WHS, Food Safety & HACCP regulations
  • Next level organisation and problem solving skills 
  • Ability to coach and mentor to build strength in the team 
  • Attention to detail and great time management
  • Team player with a collaborative approach to work
  • Strong attention to detail, written and communication skills
  • Willingness to work in the business as well as on the business
